If there is one excursion nobody staying in the Vodice area should skip, it is Krka National Park. The Krka river has spent millennia building travertine barriers across its canyon, and the result is a staircase of lakes and waterfalls that looks almost too green to be real. And while most visitors drive an hour or more to get here, from PRIKA Pool House the park boundary is just 8 km away — you can be at the entrance before the tour buses have even left Split.
Skradinski Buk — the postcard waterfall
The park's superstar is Skradinski Buk, a 800-metre-long cascade of 17 travertine steps ending in a broad, thundering final fall. A loop of wooden boardwalks carries you right across the rushing water, past historic watermills and viewpoints that fill every camera roll. Allow 2–3 hours for the full loop at an easy pace — more if you stop at the small ethno village and the old hydroelectric plant, one of the world's first (it lit the city of Šibenik in 1895, two days after Tesla's plant on Niagara).
Beyond the main falls
Most day-trippers see only Skradinski Buk, which is exactly why you shouldn't stop there:
- Visovac — a tiny island monastery floating in the middle of a lake-like stretch of the river. Boat tours run from Skradinski Buk in season.
- Roški Slap — a quieter, wilder series of falls further upstream, with the "necklaces" of miniature cascades and far fewer people.
- Skradin — the storybook little town at the park's water entrance, perfect for a late lunch by the marina after your visit.

Local tips from your hosts
Go early or go late. In high summer the boardwalks are blissfully quiet before 9:30 — and because you're staying so close, you can be back at your private pool by early afternoon while everyone else is still queuing for parking. Late afternoon light is also the best for photos of the falls.
Choose Lozovac for ease, Skradin for romance. The Lozovac entrance has large free parking and a short shuttle (or a pleasant walk) down to the falls. From Skradin, you arrive by boat along the river canyon — slower, but a beautiful start. If you visit twice, do both.
Combine it with the hinterland. The road to Krka passes close to the old watermills and fortresses of the Šibenik hinterland — a perfect no-crowds detour on the way home. Or cool off afterwards with a swim in Vodice: see our guide to the best beaches around Vodice.
After Krka, the region keeps giving: spend a day on the water among the 89 islands of the Kornati archipelago, or wander the marble streets and fortresses of UNESCO-listed Šibenik — both make effortless day trips from the house.
